I was told this past weekend that my 1940 B should not have any petcocks on it because the B did not come from the factory with them, is this a true statement?

J, all the B's had 5.5" stroke.

My 38B does not have them but my 51B has them. The location is different as they are under the cylinders not where you would expect.

Maybe the unstyled "B" had them if they were Hand Start..?? I sure remember hand start "A" tractors had them. I thought that only the "H" had no petcocks, of the "Letter series"... I am sure they could have been drilled for them, at the customers request.. Many times we were glad we had them, after a heavy rain storm..! Ron.

i went to the parts book pc-330 and it listed the petcocks up through 289386 from 201000 up. there is a listing for a petcock in the parts list and it say 2 used from b6000 thru b200999 at the top of the page, but down in the parts list it doesn't list any serial numbers. so i'm more lost now than ever. you can say thanks for making it worse anytime now.

I had a '36 B and it had none. Also had a '40 B and it had them. Just my experience.

I believe John is right that when they went to the styled B they put on pet-cocks because of the higher compression.

Fer as I know when they styled the B starting in 1939 and increased the bore from 4 1/2 to 4 1/2 THEY ONLY THEN ADDED PETCOCKS. The unstyled 1935 to 1938 had NO Petcocks.

So an unmodified 1940 should have them in my opinion buttttt t Im NOT the go to guy far as specs or model changes or data is concerned NO warranty lol
