Tried this before, but did not work. What is acceptable compression for a 1955 model 50? What was it new? Can't find any info on spec pages. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the replys--What is still acceptable with a older or worn engine? I know this one has been used for some time. Thanks.

More so than acceptable psi is how does it start and run ? power ? blow-by ? oil consumption ? for YOUR needs. I have had some that had some blow-by and made some oil smoke, but the HP was right up there and they started and ran so that is all I needed and it was acceptable to me for my needs of that tractor. See where I'm going with this ?

How much are you getting and is there a big difference between cylinders ? even if you say drop down to 70 lbs. ? more or less ? as long as it builds kinda quick and is even between both you should be able to get it running good enough to find out more about it before a tear down.

JD SM2010 says, "In a new engine with rings seated the compression pressure is 120 P.S.I. @ 200 R.P.M. (cranking speed)."

Somewhere/sometime I penciled in my notebook: The service manual lists the 50 gas tractor as having 6.1:1 compression and a cranking compression of 118 psi.

Not sure when or where I got that, so it is open to dispute.
