I'm trying to take the sediment bowl off my style G ('50 model) and just run a straight gas line to the carburetor with an in-line filter and a shut off. The problem is the threads going into the tank measures 5/8". I'm assuming that's pipe thread, and I can't find an adapter to fit it. Apparently 5/8" is rare in a pipe thread. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm just trying to run a 3/8" rubber line. Thanks.

I think I saw mention of problems with some in-line filters as they are made for pressure to push the gas through and may not flow enough gas for you. Don't know never tried it. Sounds logical to me ?

I never had a problem with a factory set up yet ? providing it was factory and also had it's screens in place. Now if your tank is full of rust you can get it cleaned and put Red-Kote liner in it.

That fitting is a 3/8 pipe thread.

Mine may have been drilled and tapped larger at some point in time, because it's definitely 5/8".

Mark, a 3/8 inch pipe thread is about 5/8 inch o.d. The 3/8 refers to the nominal inside dimension of the fitting or pipe, i.e., the minimal inside flowing area diameter size. It is very possible that the tank female fitting on your tank is stretched or worn to where the 3/8th inch male pipe thread on the sediment bowl assembly or the fitting your are trying to use will no longer tighten well enough to seal. A good welding shop could probably fix this. problem.
