Just picked up a late styled B to go with my 45 A. The B seems to have potential, but filled the back of my truck with boxes of parts. Seems the former owner took it apart, but that was all the further he got. It has no ser # tag, and I would like to know if anyone knows how to tell the improved stamped steel frame from the original version the late styled tractors came with. This frame has two hairline cracks about 3/4 inch long near the pedistal. Any other ideas as to narrow down the year model? Wish me luck, and I'll most likely be asking for help again as I put her back together.

Scott, I have a late "B" that was cracked in the same places, I ground the crack out to a "V" bottom, then mig welded it with an in-line pass then multiple passes across the crack, then ground it down. After paint you can't tell it was welded. Been running it for years without any further cracking. One way you can narrow down the S/N a little closer is, if the brake drums are held on with rivets it is under S/N 232467, if the brake drum is held on with a nut it is over S/N 232468. I'm sure you will get more posts with different ways to tell the S/N.

Clooney,

Thanks for the tip, I've got nuts on the brumbs. I also have square axel housings, and I understand that that is 50 or later. Any one else got any ideas?

Thanks again

Scott
