Can someone inform me on this possibility, price, were to get the parts if it is possible and work involved, switching a JD 730D pony start to a 12 volt start. The pony motor is not running at this time but the tractor will start by pulling. I am just getting into the antique tractor thing and would like some advice. Thanks

It takes a lot of starting power to crank a two cylinder 376cu"/6.16L diesel. An eight, six, four or three cylinder of that displacement is much easier to turn over. 188cu" is coming up for compression per compression stroke, not 47cu" like a eight cylinder. In round figures it's like starting a 752cu"/12.3L four cylinder or a 1504 cu"24.6L eight cylinder.
In the south and in the summer 12V can be made to work. Sometimes a slam start will be required and hope there is enough inertia in the flywheel to get through the 1st two compression strokes.
Warm to cool weather starting is possible if you compromise nothing. A couple of group 31 batteries, 4/00 swagged cable and a high torque 42MT 13tooth starter. The 42MT won't fit on the factory cast iron bracket.
The smaller 37MT starter family is usually used in conversions but it tops out at 8.4HP on 12V.
The starting engine makes 12 to 14HP depending on who you ask. A 1000CCA battery can power up to a 8.4HP starter under ideal conditions. Two batteries will be required to get 10HP from the 42MT. A 42MT is rated for "UP TO" 900cu"/14.8L. In the real world about 1/2 that size of engine. Delco Remy 42MT Specifications
