You will find he return fitting/housing pressure regulating valve in the pump cover to be clogged, most likely with "coffee grounds-like" dark plastic chunks. This means the "governor damper ring" deep inside the pump is disintegrating. When the return system is blocked, the pumping plungers cannot extend to take on a new charge of fuel, and no fuel gets injected, so the engine shuts down. If you remove the fitting and clean it, the engine will run 'til it clogs again. CAREFUL... likely there's a glass ball and a tiny spring inside that fitting. CAUTION... If you continue to run the engine 'til the ring s too far gone, metal parts in the governor will rattle against each other, causing damage to the parts, and metal filings in the fuel system. IF the return fitting is clean, and the pump is OK, the shutdown problem CAN be cause by a restriction somewhere in the return line, anywhere between the pump and the tank.
