Last night the other son-in-law and I were pulling sleeve assemblies out of Father-in Laws' 3020. The reason for doing this was O-ring leak and water out the weep hole. We found a suspicious looking O-Ring in the #4 hole, but what really conserned us was what was found when the sleeve was pulled out from the #2 hole. Down low in the block, on the right side, just below the bottom O-ring there was a chip missing from the block. This chip was a triangulare shape that was wider at the bottom; aprox. 1/2 inch, and narrowed at the tip to about 3/32 of an inch, and bordered the bottom O-ring. When the o- ring was removed, in that small 3/32" area there was no bottom support for the O-Ring. I have a few Questions, so bare with me. First, would side pressure from the sleeve hold the O-ring in place or will the small Void tear the O-ring, and cause another leak? Second; could this chip be fixed? If so How? Lastly, if answers to the above Questions were all no, How much would a used block cost? and where would be a good place to start looking? Any Input is apprechiated. This tractor is an early 3020, 64 model s# 55297, I think, that is if it matters. I know this old tractor has over 14000 hours on it, even if the tach, and hour meter quit working some time ago, and I know It's not worth much monitarily, However when I look at it all torn down with its chipped block all exposed, I can't help but feel like a member of the family is critically ill, and needs help, so help you all if you can. thanks, Greg H.

I have fixed a couple of blocks with JB weld. Smear it on, let it dry good, and go after it with a cut-off wheel on a die grinder to shape the o-ring groove. The o-ring will NOT stay in place unless you do this.

If it was mine i would TIG WELD it up with a cast tig rod. I welded my rocker arm mounts on my G with it it worked great.

FIRST OF ALL WHAT IS THIS GAS OR DIESEL. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PICK UP BLOCKS FOR AS LITTLE AS $3OO BUT SINCE THE PRICE OF 3020 DIESELS IS GOING UP A DIESEL BLOCK MIGHT BE A LITTLE PRICY. I BELIEVE I WOULD TRY TO FIX IT.A GOOD DIESEL ENGINE REPAIR SHOP SHOULD BE ABLE TO WELD IT UP AND CUT A NEW O RING GROOVE.SHORT OF THAT BUFF THE AREA GOOD WITH A WHEEL AND REPLACE THE METAL WITH JB WELD.ONCE THE O RING AND SLEEVE ARE IN PLACE I DONT THINK YOU WILL HAVE A PROBLEM
