I've been a member of this forum for awhile and truly enjoy reading, learning, posting, etc. It isn't unusual that I check this board 3,4,5 or more times per day. I find the information awesome and the assistance when I need advice terrific.

We all come from varying walks of life with some being full time farmers, other hobby farmers and others restore machines for a love or sentimental reasons. Perhaps some of us are combination of the these such as I am. Regardless, each person brings something to this forum of value.

My venting comes from reading posts that are dripping with negativity. It sad to see people cut others down with scarcasm and negativity. There is absolutely no need to directly or indirectly call someone stupid or a question silly. We all error. We all make mistakes. We all forget to put 2 and 2 together to make 4. What ever happened to "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all"?

I love this JD forum as well as the Farmall/IH forum for I use both manufacturer machines and find they are both very good products. And all I ask is that we bite our tongues if we feel we cannot add value or find ourselves wanting to prove we are better than others by putting another down.

Now....let's get back to tractor talk! :)

I quit postng because of all negative comments directed at pullers like myself...I started working on 2cyl.JD's in the early 60's but still have to have help at times...thanks to P.Browning I now have parts books, service manuals & owners manual for the [12] tractor's I play with...take care...Kent

You made the choice to quit posting. This site hae a forum for tractor pulling, and I remember many of your remarks would be been better off posted there, because some of them were designed to see what kind of a reaction you'd get, and you didn't like what you got. A lot of enthusiasts are against pulling and pullers. I'm one of them. You destroy tractors and parts for feed your egos and win two-bit trophies. Most pulling tractors aren't even good for parts when the pullers are done with them. I'd rather see a tractor scrapped or parted out than make a puller out of it.

Thanks for posting your article, I think its a long time needed. I remember about 2-3 years ago, i asked question about the rarity of a certain Deere tractor. And I received a response from a very rude fellow, saying that I should never ask such as question, because no tractor is rarer then a 330. We all know that his statement is not true. So when I tried to defend myself and straigten out the wrinkles, the guy jumped on me even more. Obviously the guy needed an education on rarity and should have been taught a thing or two about tractors that are tractors rarer then a 330. Hey I like 330's too, but I wasn't going to get into a fight with him over something like this. (I'll never forget his name, because of him I forced myself to change my handle, unfortunatly) No offense to 330 owners by anymeans either since I have one too. But the guy wasn't very opened minded to say the least and he was extremly rude with a "I'm better then you attitude". Again your article is very nice and has been needed for a long time.

I just picked up a 2010 hy crop in central LA. In the fence row was a complete JD 70 HY crop wide front, with 3pt on propain. I think it would be kinda rare.

I was told later that tractor restored would be worth quite a sum of money. He also had a G and A hy-crop, both running and unrestored sitting side by side in his shed. Very nice. Lord knows how many hy-crop 30-40 series plus a barn full of new generation hy-crop Deeres. He has sold off of this site in the past. If he wants to sell any of his tractors, I'm sure he will post them. For his privacy, all I'll say is he's in central La.

If who can afford a 24 of beer and a carton of smokes every week. Then too cheap to purchase an operator's,service manual and torque wrench/proper tools. These aids clearly answer, illustrate and even prevent some of the problem(s). It does no harm to give those overly economical characters a jab. People who don't use spell check, need a little poke too. My grammar and spelling is lousy, no reason why others can't clean up the majority of their errors too. Those people who hold safety with disdain and/or defend cobbled up patch job tinker fixes. I hope they haven't been breeding and passing those defective genetics on.

The grammar and key boarding is kind of a pet peeve of mine. I've been mostly a lurker here for six or seven years now but early on when I first came here I was reading a post and with misspelled words and words running together, you could barely making out what he was trying to get across. When some poor joker poked a little fun at the poster, well you'd of thought he'd hit a retarded kid in the head with a basketball at recess. I never thought that so many people adopted sloppy typing and poor grammar as their own personal crusade. It's not that hard to read over something before you put it up there. BTW, I checked over this and found 8 mistakes. proably some I missed.

GREAT POST 61-4010!!!!! !

I'm very new to the hobby and read the discussion forums daily trying to pickup any knowledge I can. There are some great people on here that truly want to help others like P Browning. I hesitate to post questions because of those that prowl these boards ready to attack those who are trying to gain knowledge. Sad!

Thanks for the post. I'm one of those who is still learning about how two cylindar's operate from the inside even though I have used them for many years. I am overhauling my first one right now, a 41 h and am so thankful for people's patience with me. I have gotten lots of good information from Pat on this particular tractor. In my family I have to take the torch and learn as some of the mechanics in my family have already passed on.

I couldn't agree more. I am still new to restoring tractors and I am prone to ask a stupid question once in a while. I just decided to read books rather than be ridiculed on here for the questions I ask. I have also found that if you not a popular name on here your questions don't get answered.

ME TOO -- Not being a popular name doesn't mean squat to me. If you have a question I believe I can help with, I will respond. And while my wisdom breaks down sometimes, I try not to let my keyboard get ahead of knowledge -- if you know what I mean. So please -- do come back and keep this thing going. (PatB)

And why should they be shy? I'm always amused that it's never OK to have an opinion that someone else doesn't agree with. Somebody makes a statement that they are going to do whatever with their tractor, someone else responds stating that isn't the way it should be done, and the civil war breaks out, "because it's his tractor, and he can do anything he wants!!" That's true, but it works both ways---while he can do anything he wants, other people have the freedom to express their opinion about it, some just stating the way the tractor should be, and you'd think WW III just broke out. I can understand why a number of people have quit posting, just because they got tired of being jumped on while trying to help. God forbid on this site if you don't like tractor pulling, straight pipes, chrome stacks, etc, because if you don't, and have the gall to express those opinions, you're gonna get stomped on, just for expressing an opinion.

Hey 4020LP Good evening to you. I'm not at war with anyone. You're right, nothing wrong with having an opinion. Nothing wrong with giving an opinion....if it's asked for. Your comment has me a little confused. Can't tell whether you like pulling or not, chrome stacks, straight pipes or not. Question, if someone changes a 6 volt positive ground to a 12 volt negative ground, is that ok or not? Not likely you could tell by looking but it's not factory. Just wondered what your opinion would be. By the way, does everyone on this forum consider you an expert or just you? RW
