Hey my peeps. Still working on a full restoration of this 4010 and I"m considering just replacing the voltage regulator to ensure that I have trouble free operations. Both the starter and the generator were totally rebuilt (and set me back some good dough too) and I"ve got a whole new wiring harness. So I figured I should just buy a new $57 regulator from Deere and be done with it.

Question - - do they make solid state regulators that would work in this tractor or should I just stick with the relay technology? And if I buy a new one from JD, I assume I won"t have to measure the air gaps, etc since it is new. Right?

Thank you all!

If the regulator you now have is working, I doubt if you'd gain much by replacing it. There REALLY hasn't been much inprovenment in this OLD technology, except to make them as cheap as possible, offshore, nowadays.

There are specialty outfits that sell solid-state regulators, (even kits) for antique cars, but I don't know of a source for a 24-Volt solid state, isolated ground regulator for a 4010.
