JUSTIN... RIGHT OFF HAND I CANT GIVE YOU A PART # BECAUSE DIFFERENT PARTS STORES HAVE DIFF. # FOR THE SAME ALT. YOU NEED A 10SI DELCO ALT WITH SIDE CONTROL CONNECTIONS WITH THEM SET AT 12:OO BUT FIRST YOU NEED TO ANSWER THE QUESTION IS THIS 4010 GAS OR DIESEL IF ITS DIESEL YOU HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM

Justin.... The alternator off of about any 72 through 78 GM vehicle would have an internal regulator. You can tell by looking at them. The internal reg alternators are much more blocky than the external type. Also the pins are arranged like -- and the plug goes into the side of the alternator. The ones with external regulators plug into the back and the pins are parallel to each other like ||. I suggest however that you read my post to your first question. Make sure you know which starter you have. If it's a 24 volt starter, think carefully about this conversion! If you have a 12 volt starter, just hook the batteries in parallel negative ground and hook it up! Connect he F pin directly to the ignition switch. Take a second wire from the switch to the GEN light. You'll have to convert from a single wire to ground type of GEN light to a two wire NO GROUND type of light. Take the other light wire to the R pin of the alternator. This way you will be able to monitor alternator malfunction with the dash light and it will light up to help you remember to turn the key off after stopping the engine. If you still have a 24 volt starter it's a whole 'nother ball game.

Buckeye--- where did you find an internal regulator alternator with the terminals f & r on it. All the internal reg alternators I have seen are numbered 1 & 2 with 1 being the field exciter and 2 being the battery sensing 1 needs to have a light bulb or resistor in it to keep from burning out the transistors in the reg.

Tell then that you want a alternator to fit your 1974 Chevy Pickup. This will be a Delco with the internal regulator that everybody is talking about. They may want to know what amperage capacity that you need 40 to 60 amp will be allot more than any generator ever had.
