Need one for the new carb installation. I think the proper fitting is 1/8" pipe at both ends. Am I correct, and are they standard thread on these or fine thread at one end? Thank you.

Thanks for the heads up everyone! Bob George at Triple G Service/Western New York set me straight last night and dug out a proper fitting from his inventory.

But without good council first, I'd have gone into this one incorrectly. Thanks again.

As others have stated the carb side is 1/8 NPT. Just a word of advise if you arn't real up on how to break. I always tap every thread on a DLTX to be on the safe side. I have had a few brought in with the carb cracked in this area.

I'm guessing because it had rust in the threads, or to much teflon tape and was force threaded, thus outward pressure cracked the carb. The bottom halves are a dime a dozen so it's not a big deal, just probably avoidable. I'm pretty sure Burry told me he makes the brass parts for Roberts, and Roberts makes the gaskets for Burrey.

Be real easy with those NPT (tapered) taps. You can oversize a female NPT fitting in a heartbeat. Go in just far enough to have clean threads. (PatB)

Not to mention it is tapered and thin in that area they easyily break the castings.

Kendog,
It is not unusual for carburetors to have the inlet fitting changed from the A258R to a simple compression fitting. Look at the end of the fuel line going to the carb. If it is a compression fitting (no flared fitting soldered on the end of the fuel line, but rather a small brass ring slid over the end of the tubing and a small brass nut behind it) you will have to put a 1/8NPT compression fitting in the carb bowl to connect to the fuel line. If the end of your fuel line has a flared fitting soldered on it, and a larger (requires an 11/16 wrench) nut, you need the A258R as described in earlier posts.

The end that goes into the carb is 1/8 inch pipe thread which is a fine thread, the other end i think is a male thread where the gas line screws on.

Kendog -- Could it be that the part you need is A258R? If so, it is available from Robert's Carb and also available via your local John Deere Dealer.

As for the thread size & count on each end, no one can tell you without touching one and/or having a Deere drawing in hand. But I do believe one end is 1/8" NPT. The best bet is to renew with a real A258R rather than going to Ace Hdwe on this one. (PatB)
