my cousins son next door just bought a real pretty 45 jd b hand start. in looking it over we found what appears to be a pegs of some kind in the same bolt hole pattern as the bolts that holds the rims on. there is one on each side. what are they? sorry can't discribe them any better except that they are maybe 3/8 inch wide and stick out of the rim 1/2 inch and are round. i wanted to say they looked like the cap on an inter tube maybe. any ideas. thanks guys and gals.

I was wondering about those on my 47 A w/steel rears. I am going to guess that they are used somehow to locate or hold a wheel weight so you can bolt it on. But that is just a guess.

i thought the same thing except that it was some type of locating pin for the rim., but it didn't come through to the rear of the hub. the ones on his are way to short to be used as much of a line up point for anything i would think. glad this is bugging some body else besides us.

hi frank, thanks for the offer. this guy works and i'm going to to ball game tonight where i shoot the game films for the local high school. i'll leave before he gets home today so it will be tomorrow before i can get the picture taken. to me this things looks just like a valve core cap. its got a knurled outside to it and he thinks there is a little spring in behind that knurled part. we don't want to take it off and mess up the real nice paint job. it doesn't come through to the inside of the rim. my first thought was it was a peg like some trucks have to help line up the holes for the bolts, but this thing is just setting on the rim the best we can tell. just curious that it might be a spare cap for the inter tube. just don't know.

I gather you are speaking about the front rims? Some of the rims that I have seen are riveted together instead of welded. Could you be looking at the end of the rivets?

Kurt
