okay so i swapped on an altenator instead of the generator. not a big deal but i wanted to make sure i had it wired correctly.

i was told to hook the hot wire to one side of the amp meter and the other side to the batteries positive side.

does this sound correct?

interesting..

wouldn't it do the same thing by hooking it directly to the battery?

hot wire from altenator to one side of gauage and the other side to the battery??

just curious why it goes to the starter?

i guess that is what it is called an amp meter? the guage in the dash that tells ya if it is chargeing or not?

"just curious why it goes to the starter?"

In MOST applications such as this, the stout battery cable goes to the starter solenoid terminal, and a lesser-gauge (10, for axample) wire continues on from there to the charging system and electrical loads.

I suppose they do it like that to make things simpler and neater, and save running an extra, unneeded wire parallel to the battery cable.

Using an ammeter, eh?

The power lead from the battery, by way of the big post on the starter solenoid, goes to one side (terminal stud) of the ammeter.

The output of the alternator and ALL electrical loads go to the other side (terminal stud) of the ammeter.

If the ammeter reads backwards, swap the connections between the two posts on the ammeter.
