I would like to know how to set up and move check-row wire through the field for my JD 999 Planter. Thanks.

Plow Man: I got in on that type of planting corn back in the '50's. Keeping the wire straight and tight helps. You can make a marker line across the field maybe 50-75 feet "set in" from the ends and use this as a guide to check each time you reset the wire. If you get a "cross row" that lines up with that marker, you should be fairly close all across the field. Its sort of an art as to how tight to pull the wire on half mile long fields. Best of luck planting...harvey

plowman,

I never used one but think you begin by anchoring the check wire at one end of the field and let it out (through the drop release) as you make your first planting pass. Then you anchor at the far end. As you travel back drop release of the planter clicks off the seed drop. You just keep moving the wire each time you reverse your direction. Hope this helps.
