The Carburator on my John Deere LA continues to overfuel the engine fouling out the spark plugs. The air adjustment screw has no effect whatever on the rich or lean condition of the air/fuel mixture entering the engine. The float level is correct and the float valve seems to be working properly. I appreciate any help I can get to correct the problem.

Check and make sure you have a jet in the bottom of the bowl. This is a fixed load jet carb. There were different sizes of them I don't know if Robert's sells them or not ? or what size even goes in there. But I have seen different sizes. Another thing is to make sure the air cleaner is not restricted from gunk. My last LA I did I test ran it without the air cleaner and it was too lean and would pop under load. All was fine again with the air cleaner on as it does restrict some. I think I got mine clean ? between pressure washing and solvent tank I did get some gunk out.

It's a little side/updraft Marvel Schebler like those used on 8N's, VAC's, etc., right? Might have only one adjusting screw as the rest is handled by a straight jet.

Check that there is no crub blocking the jet in the bottom. Since everything in them settles into that area, one time of a bit of moisture sitting in there over a weekend and you can groqw some magnesium hair between the dissimilar metals. Wire through the air port all the way down to the cross channel in the bottom. Pot metal every where so use really soft wire when probing.

the magic word here is the float seems to be ok. take the carb apart and see if the float isn't full of gas. you may have the adjustment screws way to open but it sounds like your carb needs taking apart and cleaned correctly. see pat brownings JDH site.

Doesn't it have TWO adjustment screws... Load and Idle?

Does it overfuel at ALL speeds?

Is the air cleaner restricted?

Do you have a new gasket between the carb upper and lower bodies?

Is the venturi in place correctly, and undamaged?
