2-cyl Power Steering Question

Going thru the power steering on my late 1958 JD 620. Just finished rebuilding the pump and now I'm checking the the amount of oil leakage past the steering vanes. Manual says there should be less than one quart in 30 sec. I have less than one quart in 60 sec. Upon inspection of the two oil lines going into the vane-type cylinder I found the ends "plugged" with small eighth inch orifice openings in them. Is this factory specs or did someone put these orifices in to cover up excessive oil leaking??? Thanks, Rich

These orfices were factory installed. They are there to control steering speed and stability. They will limit how fast oil will travel to and from motor to steering valve. DW

Those were made like that.

If it is a working tractor you may just want to use it as is until it gives more problems or leakage. If you are restoring/repainting it than you may want to just tear it apart and put a seal kit in it now so it doesn't leak down the frt. pedestal from worn shaft o-rings later. I say o-rings,but likely if you pull yours down they will be worn square on one side and not look like an O but a D.
