Shorty, Sounds like you and I like talking about other unique John Deeres beside Two Cylinders, Have you ever seen a 4230 Gas? I have worked on several 4030 Gas models but never a 4230. They did make these and show parts for them in the parts books. I had see one for sale and pictured in a truck/tractor traded magazine a year ago. It would be a real Orphan to have one of these. It used the same gas engine that was used in the late 4020's as near as I can tell. How plentiful are 2510's and 2520's in your area? Just thought this would be somthing new to talk about. Dave

I have a 2510 that I paid $1700 for about 15 years ago. It was a diesel with bad balance shafts and shaft bores in the block. I replaced the engine with a six cylinder 303 diesel engine from a 95 combine that I had retired. Had to extend the side rails, hood, pipes, wires etc. about 8 inches. I used the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and radiator form the tractor. I was worried about clutch slipage and over heating, but have never had any problem with either. I pulled four 16 semi mounts for a couple years, now just spray, chop, scrape, and plant. Handiest tractor on the farm.

Dave,
I didn't even know they made a 4230 gas model and I was working for a John Deere dealership during the time the 30 series were built. I looked them up and you are surely right, they did build 4230 gas tractors. They weren't tested at Nebraska either. 2510's and 2520's are very rare around here.

I hope you dont mind me stepping in on this post. Dad has owned 2 of these gas 4230's. one he sold a couple years ago to a man that restored it. He still owns one and uses it as a loader tractor. If i remeber right there were around 30 of these made. if i can get some pics together i will post them.
