When changing the Oil Filter on on JD "A" does the liner @ the outside of the Filter come out?
The Service Manual describs a Tool that you can build what is this tool?

NO!!! That is your filter housing, and needs to be removed only if damaged(crushed from overtightening). The tool decsribed in your book is for installing a new housing.

Jim -- Only the filter should be removed in this is a routine oil & filter change. Be sure also to renew the o-ring, and do not tighten any more than just enough to bring the cover up snugly.

You don't need a service manual to tell you what to do when performing routine oil & filter change. Consult your Operator's Manual for more details. And if you don't have one, I recommend you let someone know that it would be a nice stocking stuffer! Call (800) 522-7448 with model & serial number in hand along with your credit card.

To determine jsut which Deere publicatins go with your tractor, go to the JD-H Restoration site (below), scan across to ARTICLES 1, and the of the drop-downs, select DEERE PUBS. On page 2 of that piece you will find the manuals for your particular tractor, and on page one are instructions for obtaining them.(PatB)
