I want to replace my powerlift with powertrol,so I can install a JD 45 loader on my John Deere b.
It is a late b with square axles. The serial numberis b289509.
Is upgrading as simple as unbolting the powerlift
assy from the rear of the tractor, and installing the powertrol?
Will any powertrol assy fit?
Do powertrol assemblies have any known problems?
If I bought a used powertrol unit, what sort of troubles may need to be addressed before it is ready to install?
What all will I need to make sure is included with the unit before I purchase?
How much can i expect to pay for the unit?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

A personal preference, I would recommend the shear washer type of powr trol like Kurt JDB has for sale. They seem to tend to leak less. If you put the loader on and leave it on leave as designed. If you change cylinders often as I do, add poineer connections past shear washer connections.

In consideration for the correct police, your square axle B would be correct with the later style pin type keepers for the plugs/hose fittings.

There should be many powr trol units of either type on the market as most pullers remove them for weight reduction.

Direct fit from any late A,B,G or a 50,60,70 models. I would get a new gasket for the swap. And while off put new o-rings in the housing where the hyd. plugs go in. 4 total all the same size.Eaiser to do on the bench ,but can be done later too. Those units are pretty much trouble free. When you pull it off there will be a spring and a valve the looks like a small engine valve that can fall out. These are for the rate of drop adjustment on the rockshaft. I think the power lift and trol may use the same part. But I'd just ask that those parts be included. Don't know how much they go for today ?

Mike, I think the powertrol for the 50, 60, 70 is functionally the same, but the cracking pressure on the relief valve is higher, as the system pressure is higher. This is easily adjusted, but he will need some gages and the jd manual on the powertrol to do it. I recently bought a powertrol on e-bay for about $15. Shipping was more.

I have a good functional unit I would sell for a reasonable price. It is the older style with the shear washers.

There is one on E-bay now. I believe they are the same. My 47 "A" is parked next to my buddies 60 and they look the same.
