Dyno question

An implement dealer near me is going to be selling an A&W (not M&W) dyno. It is water operated as opposed to oil operated in an M&W unit. Is the A&W a better unit, or just different? This is a 250 h.p. unit, non-digital (I think). What would something like this be worth, and is it even something I should consider bringing home? Thanks in advance for any comments/help. Mike

I know of dyno simalar to the one you are looking at and have been very suspicious of it's accuaracy. One particular tractor I think of was dyno'd at 220 hp and just from driving it I know it had a lot more like 160hp, at least those were my thoughts.

Mike,
We had a water operated or cooled dyno at the dealership I worked for. With the bigger horses you will need to be careful and not overheat the water cooled one. Also, the hot water coming out of it was dangerous.

Hello again, Shorty. Did the dyno you are familiar with operate on water PLUS water cooling, or was it all self-contained? Could you not get enough water through it to keep it cool? Thanks for your help. Mike

Hey Mike, I think the dyno we had was water cooled and had an oil reservoir to lubricate it. It would stay fairly cool with little tractors, but the big ones would heat it up pretty fast. We couldn't pull it real hard for a long period of time the way I remember it. We used it a bunch, and didn't really have any trouble with it.
