I tore it back down again this morning, double checked all specs, rechecked that all parts were there and installed correct, even checked out ventilator pump. Replaced the fan and put it on the right way. I checked the nose for wear like Mike M suggested, no play at all. Shaft still hits at that certain RPM. I'm out of ideas, except to try and find an N.O.S fan shaft.

I only wish I was next door so I could come over and see/hear for myself.

Are you sure it is hitting the inside of the tube ? And not just the fan blade hitting the shroud. Do you think it is in the center from flexing or at an end ? Those shafts are pretty stiff to flex ? As I have beat pretty hard on some of them to get the fan disks to move back.

Does the engine seem to vibrate alot like if the fylwheel or clutch driver are on wrong throwing it out of balance ?

Just trying to think out loud and maybe stumble across a solution. This one really seems weird. Bring it on over as I love a challange. Ohio is a ways away though.

Hi Mike, The shaft is definetly hitting in the center of the tube. I listened with a stethoscope, and you can feel it with your hand. I put a different governor gearset in this morning just to see if any thing would change. Same exact problem. The clutch driver and flywheel are where they are supposed to be, and there is no vibration while running. The blades are'nt hitting the shroud. I have put a straight edge all the way around the tube, no bends.
If it was'nt so much work, I would swap governor and fanshafts with my dads B and see what happens. If I find the solution, I will definetly post it to spare someone else this frustration. Thank you for taking the time to help.

That is sure a puzzler ? I was also wondering if your gov. weight pins and holes were loose causeing the weights to hit the gov. case making noise. But this should be noticeable at the gov. housing and I doubt it would travel up that tube. Good luck finding it. I wish I could help more. Like I said before I love this kinda challenges and won't rest til I get to the bottom of them. If at first you don't succeed try try again as they say. I have had my fair share of trial and error ! For sure report back.
