Never been over on the green forum before, feels just like the other ones. Got a question .... is a 12.4 X 42" rear tire too big for a John Deere A that has 42" rims. Saw them today and they look pretty wide. Problem is that the tractor is 10 hours away. Thanks for the help.

You only currently have two choices in new 42" tires 9.5 x 42" or 12.4 x 42"

9.5-42 6 BF Goodrich Power Grip E
12.4-42 6 Firestone Traction Field & Road B

What width are your rims?

I have two tractors with 42" rears. A 1950 JD A and a 1958 JD 620. Both have the 12.34 x 42" tires on them. IMHO 9.5" would look too narrow.

Alberta Mike,
Welcome to the green site - a great bunch of folks here! Your A came with 11-42 tires, which translates to 12.4-42 in the newer numbering scheme, so they should be just right.
