Darn radiator cap sizes!

I need help on radiator cap dimensions for a '48 G. The s/n is 32271 and per the parts book has a pressurized system - however, that assumes that there is a cap on the radiator, which there isn't!! Long lost!

Parts book says this should be a AA3489R. JD dealer has nothing but a basic radiator cap that looks like it belongs on a Chevy - functional but certainly not "original" in appearance. So I order what was supposed to be a NOS cap from a normally reputable and reliable non-JD source. The cap that I got was not for a pressurized system and the domed cover on the cap has an OD of 4-1/2". Way to big. This appears to be an earlier syle cap shown in the parts book as AB1621R.

Problem is, I want to return the incorrect cap but I don't know how to describe the "correct" one. Can someone provide a brief description of and a few basic dimensions of the correct "original" style cap?? Thanks, John

I have 2 "44" A's, they both have the pressurized cap that looks like it belongs on a chevy. They measure 2 3/4" in diameter. The hood opening is 4 1/4". What the dealer is giving you is probably correct. I have no reason to think that mine are incorrect, as both A's has never been restored, original paint.
