I am restoring my 36 B that was completely disassembled when I bought it. The piston pins were removed from the pistons and are rusted to bad to use. The pins measure 1.230 dia is this stock? How much clearance are they suppose to have? My rod bushings and pistons both measure 1.236. John Deere wants $150.00 for a new set anybody got any suggestions.

seems like JD made an oversize pin at one time...If this is available a small brake hone is good on clearing up the holes...from your explanation the wear is in the pistons and rod bushings....

J Boshears,
From the JD Field Service Bulletins the specs are:
Piston pin: 1.230-1
Piston: 1.231-1
Connecting rod bushing: 1.232-1
The -1 means each number has a wear tolerance of 0.001". So, your pistons and bushings are out of tolerance rather badly.

That is .006 clearance and is way too much.

When I did my unstyled B I was able to order from a machine shop some that were just a wee bit longer but the right dia. to make a nice oversized fit. I was able to shorten them in a lathe with a carbide tool. That shop had a catalog from somewhere that listed all kinds of wrist pins by dia. and length.

Looks like you could buff up yours and use or get a used set...later models may be similar diameter...I've never seen much issues with piston pins used or otherwise....
