Crack on JD 70 block

I found a very small, almost hidden crack on the face of my John Deere 70 gas block. It is probably not much over 3/4 inch long from the center top water jacket hole to the cylinder. The only way I found it was the crack line was reflected on to the head gasket. I kept seeing that imperfection on the head gasket. Is this common? Is this serious? Can it be held with block sealer? Can it be welded at a block repair shop? What is the going rate to make this repair? If I have it repaired can I pull the block off of the pistons and then put it back together that way without pulling the rods? The tractor is more of a chore tractor than a plowing tractor. Thank you for your suggestions.

If it's going to the stud then it will be darn near impossible to get to hold as once you tighten the head back up it will pop open again. If it's between the studs and just right into the cyl. and water jacket then maybe ? a sleeve in that cyl. going to the top will seal it off.

Have you been having alot of trouble from it leaking ?

There are no bolts near the hairline crack. The tractor really wasn't loosing much antifreeze, but seeping enough to smell it when you started it after setting awhile. Sort of that sweet smell that is associated with antifreeze in the cylinder. There has been much talk about head gasket problems on the larger 2 cylinders. Therefore I thought it might just be a bad head gasket. Regardless of the crack it still might be just a seepy head gasket. The crack doesn't appear to go completely into the cylinder wall. I understand there are some pretty good block sealers out there now. The tractor always sounded good and had good power. With only a 2 -3 hour teardown or assembly and the gaskets only costing $70 from this site or CarQuest maybe it is a risk worth trying????? I am also going to talk with a head/block repair place tomorrow. Thanks.

You also get that smell if you run stabil in your gas too. I've had some luck with bar's leak.
