Gary from Muleshoe is correct about the hex nut that should have two holes on either side of it.

The petcock on my 43B is directly under the clutch pulley.

The oil crankcase breather is the primer brown piece in the above photo.

The hold-down bolts have wing nuts on top.

As Gary stated, remove the wire mesh filter and add oil until oil begins to drip out the petcock.

Remember to also change the oil in the air cleaner.

Hope this helps.

Thanks James, I forgot they moved to the other side in later models. I did not realize that the breather was moved also. Learn something new everyday on here.

Ken if you click reply on James' post you can see that picture.

Gary, if my memory serves me right, you have a really nice 40B for sale.

"Lazarus", my project 40B, does have the petcock under the flywheel.

You are right again; I also learn something new or interesting on these forums every day.

Check the oil by opening the petcock by the fly wheel. It will be a hex nut that should have two holes on either side of it.

Add oil through the crankcase breather. Re move the breather by unscrewing it, inside should be a wire mesh filter, remove it by lifting it out, and now add oil. When adding oil keep the petcock open, when oil begins to drip out you are full.

Oil filter is accessed under the engine, a round container with a hex bolt through it.
