i am looking at a john deere 950, ser # ch0950s030405 it's a 1988 with 900 hrs, with a snow plow type blade. i need it to cut grass with a finishing mower 6', 3 acres, and to disk, and plant 10 acres in a fenced in area for cattle. the dealer just sent it to auction, its 4wd with no leaks, but i haven't heard it run. i saw it when he was closed, and he sent her out that night. i have a 22hp kubota 2wd but she is not very good at pulling a 6' disk(b9200hst) do you think this would work and what would be a good bid. it will cost $500 to have her sent back here. thanks jody

We have a 950 like the one you are considering and we use it mainly for mowing. We have a 5' Woods rear mount and we are very comfortable with that setup. I considered trading up to a six footer a couple years ago and decided against it because I spend alot of time on the lake dam and other unhospitable places. The 950 should have more than enough horse to swing a 6' mower but I was wary if it had enough A$$ to keep the tractor headed in the right direction on a 3 to 1 slope. The six foot disc shouldn't be any problem either. We've had our 950 close to ten years now, Dad bought it used with really low hours and it's been very reliable. We keep it shedded and service it regular. There will be naysayers telling you that it's not JD that it's Yanmar built from front to rear and they are correct. And there are also those that will pi$$ and moan about the transmission hump at the operators station which is an inconvienence especially if you have big feet like me. But if you are like me, you might be able to overlook those shortcomings when you see what they'll ask for a new tractor in that horse power range with those options from any manufacturer.HJ
