Thanks for the advice 720 in PA, new solenoid is in but still no go. I am getting a fairly steady stream of fuel going into the return on the tank but only a few drips will appear at the injectors. any suggestions out there????

Brakes still don't work after bleeding about a gallon of fluid. I'm guessing the brake control valve has a seal blown or check valve stuck...think i'll tear that apart next. Power steering seems awfully weak but does work. Still got some issues but at least it runs and moves now.

Well after adding a few more gallons of hyd fluid still a no go, then i noticed that my hdy pump had what appeared to be a manual destroker...turned it off and now everything works fine except for the brakes. Think i got those figured out though. If anyone needs me i'll be diggin a hole somewhere!!!!

When i got the tractor the block had a big hole in it. It had a lot of work done on it just prior to the engine letting go. New hoses, filters, starter, alt and looks like the hyd pump was rebuilt recently, even the engine parts i kept look like new. After thinking about it scince yesterday i have a few theories as to the lack of function. I'll go mess around with it some and let you know how it goes.

Thanks

Scott

Now runs but a hydraulic issue in reply to scooter01922, 08-04-2007 14:23:38
After LOTS more bleeding it runs...perfectly, no smoke no noises all good. however the hydraulics don"t want to work. I have no pressure at all to anything except the tank (the one after the oil cooler) feeding the pump which was full of pressurized foamy slop when i went to check it. Where should i start poking around. Looks like i"m about dry on the tranny dip stick but i started out at full so??? As a refresher the machine is a 400 backhoe.
Thanks once again
Scott

was this a running tractor when you bought it?just wanting to know if the hydraulics worked before the engine change.

the tank above the hyd pump is not necessarily to feed hyd pump as oil flows from it to cooler.function of tank is to keep pump primed for engine startup after machine has sat for a while.

i would reccomend cleanig suction screen i bottom of tranny.fill with oil and see what happens.

the way that system works is,theres a small pump in tranny that pulls oil through screen, supplies oil to reverser and excess oil gets pumped forward to hyd pump.hyd pump will need pressure from small pump on suction side to function correctly.also forgot to mention, would be a good idea to change trans filter.good luck

Bleed, bleed, bleed and bleed some more, especially at the return line connection on top of the engine. If by chance, your tractor has the check valve upgrade on top of the engine, remove the top of the check valve to get the air out.

SO i should bleed it some more...right. OK, OK i"ll crank till the battery croaks then report back. I just can"t imagine how the heck air stays trapped in these things.
Thanks
