530 power steering

After running only a few minutes my 530 will start to leak oil out of PS pump... when I bought tractor [2 weeks ago] it was low on PS oil I filled it with auto PS fluid as my JD dealer didn't know anything about a special oil...it also gets VERY hot [steering pump & front column]in just a few min....could this be caused by improper oil or is something else at fault....tractor sounds like it is loading up the hotter it gets...I have ordered proper oil & have drained the unit but it hard for me to believe that only [1] oil in the world will work..thanks for any help or ideas...service manual says nothing about overheating in PS system...Kent

The special oil is a good idea,but you got more problems. I know of some running on hy-gard and atf and still worked. Get a copy of the JD service manual for these and some help if you can find it.

In addition to the leaks you may have some pressure relief and or valve adjustment problems. I would try to find the overheating problem before tearing into it too far because if you rebuild the pump and still have excess pressure settings it may blow the seals right away.

I"ve rebuilt several of these. In a few words it"s hard to explain details but there is a special oil for these. The pump needs news seals and probably the front assembly needs rebuilding. My recommendation would be to get an experience hand on the job...contact some clubs or older mechanics.
