A little history. When JD was developing the Model A as a standard tread tractor,[one with a fixed-non adjustable front axle], it was going to be designated as the Model AS. Engineers were also developing the Model B as a standard tread tractor. When someone at Deere was putting together a future press release on the new models, it was noticed that the Model BS wouldn't go over very well. It was then that Deere changed the models to AR and BR respectively. The R meaning regular fixed tread.
