We have a 1946 electric start Model A and we want to remove the flywheel to replace the oil seal and set the crankshaft endplay but we're not sure how to remove it. The parts catalog shows that the "cranking ratchet" is held onto the center of the face of the flywheel by the two bolts that are visible. We removed those bolts but can't seem to remove it. There are two bolts on the backside of the flywheel that appear to be the bolts that clamp the flywheel to the crankshaft. How do I get at these and remove them ? Is there a special wrench or do I need to assemble one from sockets, breaker bar, and universals ? Once these are removed can the flywheel be pried off ?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Mike

Yes the bolts on the back need to be loosened ,Yes there is a special flywheel wrench. Some say you can get it off with std. tools if those nuts aren't to tight, but they are supposed to be tight about 200-250 ft lbs then I use and is best to pull it off with a puller, but don't drive a chisel in the cracks ,the flywheel weights around 175lbs
