Got a 1950 JD A. Broke a lower countershaft idler gear. All tore apart, new gears in.

Does someone out have the proper settings for all the shift forks/shafts? I would appreciate if anyone would email them to me.

This is not my tractor. The owner has been unable to work after an accident 3 months ago. He had all the gears in and was to the point of figuring out how to set them properly, when he fell backwards. Now that he has been out of hospital and getting better, I would like to help him get his 'A' back together. Thanks a bunch. [email protected]

If all the gears are installed, and all shifters are installed, you will need to shift all shifters in to the neutral position. Then look at the shift lever gate. All three shifters should line up for the shift lever to fit into the slots.
There is and adjustment on the left end of two of the shift shafts to make this adjustment. It's not rocket science, but you might need to get a service manual to properly explain this proceedure.

Thank you.

I have changed a set gears in a B, with the service manual. I just am not sure how different the A was going to be.
He cannot afford a manual for sure now. If we run into any problems I'll be back to ask some more.
