I bought a '54 model 60 for real cheap because it had trans probloms. It is in pretty good shape, sheet metal is good and it runs like a champ. I brought it home to take a closer look at the trans problom. I couldn't find anything wrong with the trans but I found a pretty bad problom with the pto. Looks like the tire was adjusted in to far and alot of the gear oil ran out when it ruined the seal. This wore the pto shafts all the way through the tranny housing inside, which caused them to hit on the differential. To fix the problom it looks like I will have to swap the entire trans housing. The tractor runs and drives fine you just cant ouse th pto. Is it worth fixing? I need some ideas, thanks.

First you have to figure if your going to restore or do what you have to do and how much you want to spend.I spent 300.00 on a JD60 case sandblasted and primed at Wengers ,me getting it.Bearings just for the trans case are 400.-500. if replaced.I broke my case where the bottom shaft bearing goes, stuck in two gears and wiped out 300.worth of gears .Still in process of changing.I already have 2200.for tractor ran good, found bad crank splines both ends 800.with bearings, cracked flywheel 60. ,clutch drive splines bad 130.,jd clutch 360. TOTAL 3850. SO FAR
