Even Champion does NOT recommend the D 16 for these tractors unless in very heavy service!

D 21 for average service & D 23 for light.

Unless it's in real good shape & running very lean, the D 16 may foul before you can get it out of the barn & down the lane!

Autolite 378 if you find them, they a a notch hotter than the 3116. Denso 3020 or AC Delco C88L are good too.

The larger 7/8 plugs like Autolite 3076 and 3077 are for the earlier UNSTYLED. For your tractor try NON resistor Autolite 3116. The resistor plugs that fit are the 386 and hotter 388.

Would the 3116 be a good choice for a 41 B? Which plug would you want if you were actually working the tractor..say plowing. Thanks

The reason I'm on this NON resistor (Autolite 3116) kick is I want all the available energy to get expended across the spark plugs gap versus as wasted heat in resistive wires (should use wire core NOT carbon core suppressor wires) or resistive plugs, which are designed to reduce RFI radio interference in modern elec equipped cars.. Looks like B n D has another recommendation for NON resistor also, the slightly hotter 378.

I guess Id run the 3116 or the 378 he metioned MOSTLY just cuz theyre NON resistor plugs versus the 386 and 388 resistor plugs many people use. If a person uses the tractor like it was designed for, long n hot n hard at temps over 180 degrees, we wouldnt have all these spark plug fouling problems which necessitates running hotter plugs then originally recommended in our light duty parade n show tractors.

NOTE all this is less important n critical in Delco distributor ignitions versus the limited energy magneto ignitions. As long as the plug is anywhere near the correct temperature rating and the tractors NOT an oil burner and the ignition is well tuned, plug fouling isnt all that bad in coil distributor ignitions, ESPECIALLY on the later duplex carb tractors.

Duane is the Spark Plug Guru, ask his opinion and Frank had a good similar discussion about fuel etc somewhere a while back
