This is my first rebuild, so I am very green at this. I am installing new rings in a 45 B. I understand the dot on the rings go toward the head of the piston(first 3 rings). The oil ring does not have a dot on it, but there is a champher on it. Does the champher go toward the head of the piston or the open end? Also, do I need a special tool to put the rings on or can I put them on by hand? Thank you very much.

one thing that is critical on the oil rings is to have them meet at the top and the expander goes on the wide land....I don't think there is any direction to them.....
