Presently working on a 6030 and have had no success in removing the Muffler from the turbo outlet. Have tried heat to a cherry red glow, then cooled, with no success. Hate to cut it off as the muffler is in excellent shape and replacements are quite expensive. Is there any successful methods of removal? The tractor has a cab so the hood cannot be removed completely without removal of the muffler. Appreciate any ideas, experiences, procedures, etc. in removal.
Thanks Ellis

Something else you might try before butchering anything as a last resort is to use a die-grinder and cut some slots up the flange - about three or four of them equally spaced around the pipe. If you get lucky, you'll be able to work it loose then, and it may go back on and tighten up fine for you. Definitely worth a shot, if you can get in there to do it.

That was our next step, was to run some vertical slots to release the circumferential pressure on the Turbo outlet and yet not destroy the muffler inlet. Appreciate the help and feedback. Ellis

Don't be afraid to unbolt that whole elbow if need be and if you can get on the bolts. The bolts may twist off, but they usually drill out pretty easily. I usually drill them out completely, install 3/8-16 Heli-Coils and go in with new stainless bolts and lots of anti-sieze.

They get pretty tight from rust forming between the muffler and the cast elbow. You may have no other choice than to cut it off.Might try melting some beeswax and see if it will suck up the pipe like solder does on copper tubing.

I know what you mean about hating to cut off a good muffler. I just had to do the same on a 4430.

If it's flanged at the bottom with the two-piece clamp, it's probably stuck on there pretty good. You might try heating it and then wiggling it some by grabbing the top of the muffler. Don't get carried away, or you'll stretch the flange and it won't fit tightly anymore. Failing that, I'd look into unbolting the elbow from the manifold and taking it with the muffler if there's room for it to go out the hole. You might end up twisting off the bolts, but with the hood off you'll probably be able to drill them out and heli-coil the holes if need be. At the least chase out the bolt holes well, use new stainless steel bolts when reassembling use a generous blob of anti-sieze on the elbow bolts.
