We are restoring a 520LP and have it apart to the last bolt & bearing. My Question today is , What color is the paint on the inside of the trans. case & engine case. It appears to be close to JD yellow but not quite. Have the oils changed the color over the years or is it a different color? Any Ideas???
Thanks, Andy

Color is not as important as type of paint, has to withstand heat and oil-and prevent rust. It is a special paint.Better to leave it unpainted than wrong paint.

the yellow paint inside a transmission case is a sealer to keep the porous cast iron from leaking oil. leave it alone.

Dont want to ruffel any feathers here ,just get educated.I have seen many cast iron trans./engine insides that appeared to have no coating. In fact the only reason we are considering something is because much of the present coating is already gone! Any specs. etc on what this is would be a help
Thanks , Andy

Andy I know you have seen other cast without sealer but you have to understand that this is cheap pourous cast you are dealing with I would leave it alone.Or you could use a acid to etch it and clean it,then talk to a few paint/sealer industrial floor sealer guys and try to reseal it.Hey you could rhino line it.
