I'm getting ready for auction time and want a late model 4020D with weights, dual outlets, good rubber, less than 5,000 hours, overhauled. A good tractor with limited retrofitting needed in the next few years of primarily utility use. Experience suggests I'll have to pay $12,000 to $13,000 for a sharp one. Does that look like a typical market range? Thanks!

Here in South central Kansas they are in the $8'000 to $10'000 range at the auctions.Quite a bit more if it has a loader.(up to $14,000)

Tom, I see prices running an average of $8,000 to $12,500 here in South Georgia. Dealer prices are always in the high end and you not really sure of what your getting! The best deals I have seen were offered by individual sellers, especially retiring farmers or those trading for newer models. You can also get good honest answers about the tractor's history and test drive. Auctions are BUYER BEWARE!! In any case you can't go wrong with a 4020. I agree with the other posts, take your time and look around! Good Luck

That 4020 was in the classified section of this site. A friend of mine called the number and the gentleman said there was no such tractor- it was a practical joke pulled by someone unknown to the gentleman. He was deluged with calls. Hope that guy(girl) doesn't get found out! Mike

My Dad in law sold a 4320 to a guy in Goergia about a year ago. This guy told my Dad in law that if he had any 72 4020's (diesel, PS, WF), he would give $20,000 ea for as many as he could get. They had to be in excellent shape, and had to be a 72 though. We've been looking up here for a couple of years now but the prices are approaching that up here.

Tom,

I just bout a 1966 4020D, dual hydralics, near new rubber, Hiuniker ROPS cabn w/heater, and M & W turbo for around $7,000. It had a few mores hours than what you stated (@8,000), but runs good, and was very well maintained. I looked for 6 months, and found everything from $6500 trash to overpriced @ $13,000. Much of it depends on where you live. I live in Iowa, where prices are fairly high. My in-laws live in central Nebraska, where prices are much more reasonable. If you are only using it for utility use, as I am, I would not be afraid to buy one with a few more hours on it. If you're not working it extra hard, it will run for many hours (as long as you keep maintaining it!) Besides, you can rebuild the engine for @ $2,000 (probably less if you do it yourself). I think the 4020 is one of the best tractors built, and I've heard of some going 12,000 hours + with no rebuild and stilll adequate power.

Brother in law just had his rebuilt, sleeves pitted through, and cost more around $4500. I think that $2000 would cover rings and bearings, but not sleeves, head work and whatever else may need done. I think he had 8500 hrs on his, but is tickled pink with the power he has now. Couldn't understand though why the wife wouldn't let him enter it in a tractor pull the next week.
