I just drug home a 3010 and the engine does not run. Also there is no steering. Is there a connection, like the engine has to be running for a hydrlic steering pump or something? I got a cheap shop manual but it doesn't say much. Any info would be appriciated.
Thanks,

Joe, I hope you put gear selector in tow position or you may have to R&R transmission because a gear is gaulded to the shaft!!!!! I personally would only tow a new generation off of road if required and then it would get loaded on a trailer. Tx Jim

Yes, towing at any road speed tends to destroy the top shaft in the transmission unless shifted completely out of gear in the tow position.

Forcing a stuck engine by towing usually bends rods making for more work in the rebuild.

I have drug home a couple of those "newer" tractors and they sure are a pain when they have been dead awhile ! I have done alot of the old 2 cyls. and at least you could steer them.

I have found that, at least on tricycle front ends, I can scoop them up in the front loader bucket on the 4020 and put a safty chain on them and move them around pretty well.

There could be some manual steering without hydraulic pressure but only until the captured oil leaks past the valve. Otherwise you need the engine running and the hydraulic pump pumping to have steering. Its all hydraulic, notice the lack of drag links.

Hey, Thanks. We are going to give it a tow today to see if the engine is stuck. The owner said that a bearing was out, but we will see. Thanks again.

If there's a bearing out, towing the tractor to spin the engine can do more damage. Better to just take the engine apart and fix its ills.
