This is on a 1992 John Deere combine. Early in the morning the engine starts good and will run all day and night. If you ever shut it off it will not restart until the next morning. That is if you let it run 5 minutes or 5 hours. It always does the same thing. Have had the Bosch fuel pump rebuilt. Have replace all injectors. Electric lift pump volume to IP is good. Battled this problem all of last years harvest and that was the reason for the rebuilding of the IP and replacement of the injectors. Any ideas as where to go from here? I might also add that if I don"t start up the machine while the outside temp is cool it won"t start. It has to be started early in the morning.

I agree with Mr S. Cold water won"t hurt anything if engine isn"t running. Sounds like too much clearence between plungers and barrels in pump. We are running into some funky fuel problems with low sulfer and soy diesel. Check with your diesel shop and fuel supplier. Maybe alge in fuel also.

We tried the water trick and it didn't help. Should have said that in my original message.

Have or has anyone checked for diagnostic codes? There are a lot of sensors. Just my 2 cents worth.

There are no repair shops down in my area that can hook up to this machine. We would have to bring in someone. I did talk to a pretty knowledgeable tech today that told me to check the harness between the ECU and the fuel pump. He said that there is a round plug with 13 to 16 wires in it that has a tendency to get corroded and cause all kinds of problems. Am going back down there this weekend and take a look at that.

It has been too long to remember 9000 combines. I do remember 9050 series. Corner post display will give codes. A Trouble Shooting Tech will explain codes. I had one years ago for 9000 series but gave it to my neighbor. Many things it could be.

Just a thought- our HMMWVs in Iraq would do this- try dumping some water on the injector pump and see if that does it. I didn't believe it would myself, then I watched one, it was hot outside, after it was shut off for about 1/2 hour, no start. Then a liter bottle of water (not too cold) on the injector pump in the valley pan, and varoom. Something about the heat of the engine wafting onto the injector when the engine is hot changing the bores of the pump...the steady stream of fuel keeps it cool enough to run.

Mr. S. Cold water on a hot fuelpump can destroy your pump. A farmer here had to repair his fuelpump twice in a week, because he cleaned his tractor (and also the engine) after a day of hard working. It cost him two times 800 dollar. So be careful with the fuelpump

We got a 9500 that kinda was like that but if it was below 20 degrees we would have to jump it . Does yours turn over slow when warm ? We put new cables new batteries every other year . The starter had been off and checked twice and checked out ok . one day it fried the selinoid so we put on a new starter and it never even when new started that good. The combine is a 91 and has 4800 engine hours on and now will start 20 below it just never turned over good enough. John deere had checked it out many times and did not find anything wrong.
