I can"t figure out where to check the oil on my 1941 B. This is the first two cylinder I have owned. I am a Farmall man, but I really like this little tractor, I just am not familiar with them. Please help. Also how do you time these tarctors? I am very good at timing a four cylinder by ear, but have no clue when it comes to a two cylinder.

Thanks

Above is a picture of “whatever” was in the oil bath.

Be sure to check/change the oil in the oil bath cup under the air stack.

The previous owner assured me the fluids had all been changed, but did not say changed to what!

My 1940 B has the oil level check on the LEFT side below the flywheel.

My 1943 B has the oil check on the RIGHT side below the pulley.

Remember that when checking the oil look for it to be thick (not runny). Smell it. Make sure it doesn't smell like gasoline mixed with oil. My 1950 B will sometimes get gas in the oil through the carb if I forget to shut off the fuel valve at the tank. So this is just a reminder to always shut the fuel off when you get off the tractor so that when you go to check your oil you don't find gas mixed with it as well and then have to change your oil and filter. After changing my oil a few times I finally learned my lesson.

My 1940 B has the oil level check on the left side below the flywheel. Did they change this to the right side in 1941?

don"t unscrew the wrong screw. the screw that adjust the oil pressure is right there in the same spot so don"t mess with it. you should have to turn the screw but just a little bit and should turn freely after you break it lose. i tihink the oil adj screw is surounded by 3 other screws. sorry don"t have my books here to look at tonight.

No it is not, the oil pressure adjustment is in the crankcase. The oil check is on the left side, not right. You are right for the LATE styled. Not the EARLY styled.

right under the belt pulley on the right hand side, look for a hex headed screw that you just back out a little ways and see if it starts dripping. i would never think of starting a tactor i didn't know anything about without checking the oil in it, unless the owner says its ok. you need to buy the owners manula, shop manual and service manual for your tractor. some of the others guys wil give you the number to call and the manual numbers. to time it - turn your mag all the way to the left and leave it snug. rotate the flywheel until the holes in it are perfectly level and then go back to mag and turn to the right until it clicks. tighten it down and your done. check the points while your at it to see if they are burnt. there is a hole in the cap that should be open to the air. you'll enjoy your deere. give yourself time to get use to it. don't get off of it while its running and in gear.

On the right side below the belt pulley. There is a check valve, turn it out, if oil drips it is full. If not add oil til she drips.
