Looking at new gaters, is the new XUV model worth the extra money compared to the TS ?
Test drove one, seems to ride better and faster.
We use it for general farm use, moving rocks, parts, chores, yearly tractor show. But also taking the boys fishing, hunting etc...
I like the idea of the ROPS for the boys and the speed limiter.
Anyone try the toolbox?

I am not afraid of the belt drive, it is basiclly the same thing as the TS model. The XUV model has the same motor and drivetrain as the HPX series but has EFI added.
Talked to the dealer again and he will bring me a demo in a day or two.
I'll let you know what I think, but I am betting I'll like it. Hopefully JD will make an E-85 kit for it soon.

Which one is to compete with the Kubota ? I was looking at the Deere web site at the New models and it looked like they all were belt drive yet. That Kubota should be one tough machine as it has an all gear hydrostatic drive unit like in the compact tractors. Or does Deere have a gear drive hydro model ?

We've got quite a few Gators out from early models to more recent machines, and the belt-drive gives little to no trouble at all. A few of those machines are in the hands of guys that can literally break an anvil with a rubber hammer, and they're still holding together after years of abuse. One that I know of has literally been broken almost completely in half, welded back together and is still running.

I thought that those belts gave troubles if they got wet from like crossing a stream or something ? I was thinking some magazine had troubles with that when testing some brands. I saw a gator like machine here in Ohio that was an import (gray market) had a couple of seats ,4x4, even had a 3pt. pto too I think. Must of been for the Japanese market ? Looked like a real usefull machine all in one. Maybe some day they will import them for this market ?

I assume that's possible, but then again I don't recall Deere recommending that you go cross streams with a Gator. I know for a fact that Polaris never recommended it for the same reason - belt slippage on their variable drives.
