I have a john deere 40 that tends to flood. I have cleaned the carb and reset float, but this only helped a little. I have been unable to find a carburetor or rebuild kit. I would appreciate any help. Thanks [email protected]

Ken, the posts by RON & Ic are a good place to start. When you have the carb. out & apart clean or remove & replace the small screen (its about 5/16") at the bottom of intake neck(just behind the choke valve)it is there to allow any fuel that gets by the needle&seat etc. to drain out. If its plugged the fuel will puddle in the bottom of the air intake elbow & make it harder to start. You can remove this filter & put a drain valve there but you will have to open it when you shut off the tractor & shut it after it starts (so it won't suck in dirt)

You shouldn't have any problem getting a kit from your dealer. Make sure the float doesn't have a leak (fuel inside). If it does, drill a small hole to drain, and re-solder after it's empty (electric only)The needle is probably worn out.

Seems like you would need a new needle valve. I bought a rebuild kit from JD dealer couple of years ago.
