I am looking at a 4 row 71 flex planter it was doing cucumbers. I would like to plant round up ready corn and maybe soybeans. Can this planter do them and it would be used in sand country so what plates, seed spacing, width of rows,or amount of seed would I want.It has fertillizer boxes on it. How much fertillizer do you use when planting. As you can tell I am not a farmer just a want a be. Thank you Brian

The 70 & 71 Flex Planters were always popular here too for years put on diamond tool bars adjustable for any row spacing you could want. Seen them on tool bars for 1 or 2 rows for gardens or up to 12 or 16 rows on row crops. Many even put two close together on a 40" row for double row milo when we did row water irrigation. Also used here to plant corn, sugar beets, soybeans, sudan-haygrazer, milo, & all kinds of garden vegatables with the right plates. 71 flex planter operators manual was OMH135752 & PC1001 parts catalog. JD publications 800-522-7448. http://techpubs.deere.com

Lincoln Ag Products or local seed dealers have the plastic plates for them.

A no. 71 planter will plant just about anything. They were real popular in my area on Mi for many years because they would do a good job with beet seed which is really fine. The correct population and seed spacing along with the correct plates should be on the seed bag. There is a also information on gearing on the inside of the chain cover.
