I am considering A 430W for a small farm utility tractor, but don't know if it is heavy enough to occasionally lift a round bale with the 3pt. hitch. I'd appreciate hearing about any experience.

We tried to lift a 6 x 5 bale, about 1300-1400 lb,
and this broke the hydraulic line on the 430. This hydraulic line was the metal one just in front of the steering wheel column.

Try to keep the bale as close to the tractor as possible. Keeping the front end on the ground should be the only problem. The three piont should lift it.

I should think a 430 should handle an 700 to 800 lb bale of hay as I use a 420 W with a bale fork on the 3 point hitch. David

Depends alot on the size and density of the bale your going to be handling. While I've never tried it with a 430, I would think with some ballast on the frontend you could handle 4X4 or 4X5 bales.
