im looking at an '84 4650 2wd with quad. it has 7100 hours but looks and runs great. the original owner says it uses no oil and has always been trouble-free. it has new 20.8-38 Firestone with matching duals. it seems really tight for the hours. he is asking 25,000 for it. my question is this a fair price and can I expect to get to at least 10,000 hours if it was well-maintained (which it appears to have been)? any info on these models and your luck with them would be great. thanks.

Considering the fact that there are a lot of 4440s selling in the low 20s and on up, I'd consider $25,000 for a good, solid 4650 that is bigger, stronger and more comfortable and convenient to operate than any 4440 ever built a screaming deal.

John Deere, White, and CaseIH tractors built in the 80's will last upwards of 20,000 hours when run at a minumum of 5 mph in the field and properly maintained. That should be a good tractor for you.

great tractors. they are 10,000 hour tractors if maintained properly. ours has just hit 9,600 hours and shows no signs of slowing down. we use it on a 13 shank chisel in the spring, chop with it,and run it on the grain cart some too. it is every bit as strong as our 8200. buy it. especially at that price.

According to the ones I found at www.machinefinder.com, that looks to be a good price. If the tractor has been serviced and maintained properly, it should easily go 10,000 hrs. Our 4440 has 12,000 plus and it has only had a couple of water pumps, one pushrod and a two-speed rebuild and its still plenty strong. I ran a 4650 MFWD loaner in the spring of 1984 when one of our 6030s went down with rear end problems. It wouldnt pull quite like the 6030 but it was much more comfortable and did a great job. Good luck.

I don't know what those are worth ? but anything that you can get the history of ( if you are sure your getting the truth ) should be alot better than the average tractor. I don't worry too much about hours to me it's more about how it was ran and taken care of. If not beat up and taken care of they should last a long time. Another big thing is if/when it did break was if it was fixed right or just patched ? someone who is willing to spend the extra to do it right and complete is tops in my book.

Another thing, a tractor like that usually the owner will let you work it in the field so you can really check it out.
