50 A clutch and ignition question

Will a 2 disk clutch system, drive disk, facings, pressure plate, from a 48 A fit in the pully of a 4 disk 50 A. I have the 2 disk stuff and would not have to buy anything. This is not a perfect tractor. I am trying to reassemble it with as many parts that I have as possible.

At serial 658463 should this tractor have a distributor or a magneto. I have a rebuildable earlier Wico magneto of the two piece cap type. My 35 A has the later style Magneto.

Option 1
Fix the older style mag and put it on the 35. Put the later style mag on the 50. The old mag has a short lug drive on it and the later mag on the 35 has the long lug drive so they would need to be swapped.

Option 2
Buy a distributor. One on ebay at $40 but it still has some days to go.

I also need a #71 carburator. There is one on ebay for $150 that needs a float and some other work. What would a complete rebuild carb cost. I bought one when I restored my 48 A but it was with so many other things that I can't remember what it cost.

Any suggestions here would be appreciated.

Mark

Fix the later clutch that belongs on it. Your 50 A would have came with a short lug Wico XH-1042 mag. Yes, the Wico C mag you have would be more proper on the 35 A and switch drive cups and put the XH mag on the 50 A. Your 35 A could have came with a Fairbanks Morse DRV2A mag but those are kind of hard to find and the Wico C was the JD recommended replacement. The Wico XB distributor was used on A 659290-662873. Delco 1111558 distributor was used on A 662874 and up. A carb in good shape could run what you pay plus a kit and few parts and your labor or one in unknown condition having someone else rebuild it on up to a couple hundred more.

Thanks Glen. Good advice. I will change the cracked cap on the C Mag and have it tested to see what else it needs, if anything. With mag repair, a carburator, repair of the governor/fan shaft, and the clutch parts I will have another functional tractor. If I am not careful, it will be worth what I have into it. This would be unusual for me (and many others on this board). This tractor had a LP conversion on it when I got it. The parts it needs were robbed for other tractors. It would be nice to have the 50 A with the slower transmission in the fleet.
