4010 Brakes - New are mighty thin!

Hi everyone. Question of curiosity....I have torn down the rear axles of my 4010 and decided to replace the brakes. The ones on there were worn.

Anyway, I ordered new shoes from JD at 19+ bucks a piece times 12. Much to my surprise, the new shoes were a different composite than the ones I had and geesh they look paper thin. I put the on with the rivets and there really isn"t a whole lot of "meat" to the new brakes....

So help me to understand how these expensive yet thin brakes (that look like paneling) will last long! I realize they run in oil....but even then, I don"t understand.

Thanks!

When I had my 4010 tore down and looked at the break linings I though they were about gone also. So I went down to the Deere place and ordered new one. Well when the parts men put them on the counter I realized that the ones I had were almost new. So I decided I didn't need new ones.

Just went through the same thing on a 4630. The linings sub a couple of times, to get to asbestos free make-up.

I's a sign of the times. The new pads are made of "environmentally friendly" stuff.
