Hi Dennis,

I have the same problem--first with the original power-lift and later with the power-trol. If you replaced the power-trol gasket when you reinstalled the power-trol itself after putting on a new piston cup the most likely reason is either a bad gasket between the piston cylinder and rockshaft housing, or a cracked cylinder, or a bad piston itself. I have one of these problems and plan to replace the entire rockshaft housing complete with hydraulic piston/cylinder assembly this spring. I'm only doing it this way because a friend has a parts tractor.

That rockshaft housing is a heavy booger. Make sure you have help before taking it off or have a hoist or block and tackle. It's too much for one person. Oh yes. When you take off the rockshaft housing to either replace the whole unit or gasket, or whatever, you might want to drain all 1000 gallons of trans oil first.

Good luck, Zman.

Hi Dennis, if you replaced the leather on the piston, then you have also replaced the gasket where the pot bolts on. The next step would be to remove the powr-trol box from the back, and inspect the gasket behind it. Check the passages near the bottom. If nothing is found blown there, check in the lift box to see that the valve is seating. Good Luck! Don

Someone who knows more will be able to confirm this, but on my M, there's a linkage piece that corrects for leak-down, if I remember right. Maybe this is not working right ?
