john deere b not shifting

hey guys, i have this 1950 john deere b. the problem is that when shifting sometimes it wont grap the gears on the left side of the tractor. it always grabs the right but osmetimes not the left. if anyone could help me it would be very much appreciated. thanks again jonathan s

Plan to pull the top cover off the transmission and take a look at the shifter mechanism. It might be a worn shifter gate or worn shift lever. Check to see if the hi-lo shift pawl is tight on the shaft and is not bent. Look inside to see if your hi-lo gear is actually shifting from right to left. See if there is any play in that shaft when the gear is in the left position. Could have a bearing problem on the right side of the splined shaft.

what gears are on the left side?? I thought all the gears are INSIDE!!!!
